A front-page article on hunger in California says that the number of people served by food pantries in San Francisco alone has increased by 27% in the last year. Low wages, unemployment, and restrictive food stamp policies keep one in five people in this rich agricultural state unable to buy enough food. The article features photos of The Food Pantry, and quotes from some of the people who come to get groceries with us.

On March 4, The Food Pantry had a very special visitor–Archbishop Desmond Tutu, visiting from South Africa! We were so delighted that he could see The Food Pantry in action, and so grateful for his prayers and blessings. “When you are feeding the people,” he told our volunteers, “you are feeding God.”
